Travel back in time at Xunantunich, one of Belize's most iconic Maya archaeological sites. Perched above the Mopan River in the Cayo District, this ancient ceremonial center thrived from roughly 600–900 AD. Your adventure begins with a hand-cranked ferry crossing before a scenic walk through tropical forest to the ruins. Explore six plazas and over two dozen temples centered around El Castillo — a 130-foot pyramid with panoramic views stretching into Guatemala.
Round-trip transportation, entrance fees, ferry crossing, and a licensed guide. A traditional Belizean lunch and refreshments. Allow approximately 3 hours total, with around two hours at the ruins.
This tour involves a one-mile uphill walk from the ferry plus climbing steep stone steps. Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and bring sunscreen, insect repellent, water, and a rain poncho during wet season (June–November). A valid ID is required at entry. Restrooms are available at the entrance only, not inside the site. Not recommended for guests with significant mobility limitations.
