Venture into the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve for a day surrounded by pine forests, granite boulders, and rushing rivers. The highlight is Big Rock Falls—a 150-foot waterfall on the Privassion River that crashes into a deep, clear pool perfect for swimming. The hike down to the falls is steep but short, and the reward is one of the most dramatic swimming spots in all of Belize.
Round-trip transportation in a 4WD vehicle, a guide, and a picnic lunch. Stops at Rio On Pools and Rio Frio Cave can be added. Allow approximately 3-4 hours for the full day.
The trail to the falls is steep, uneven, and slippery when wet—sturdy shoes with good grip are essential. Bring a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, insect repellent, and plenty of water. There are no facilities at the falls. Moderate fitness required. Roads in Mountain Pine Ridge are partially unpaved and can be rough.
