Visit the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center, known internationally as “The Best Little Zoo in the World.” Founded in 1983 as a sanctuary for rescued and orphaned animals, the zoo is now home to over 175 native animals across 30 acres of natural savannah. Walk shaded jungle trails past jaguars, tapirs (Belize’s national animal), harpy eagles, howler monkeys, scarlet macaws, and more—all in habitats designed to mirror their natural environments.

The zoo is located at Mile 29 on the George Price Highway, roughly halfway between Belmopan and Belize City. Wear comfortable shoes and bring sunscreen, insect repellent, and water. The zoo is wheelchair accessible. Open Monday–Saturday 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Sundays and holidays 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Suitable for all ages.
